Frequently Asked QuestionsAccompaniment to Medical AppointmentsHello, I am a 50-year-old business with many different responsibilities that keep me very busy. My mother recently became ill and she has numerousn medical appointments to attend, which I unofortunately have not always been able to attend, although I have tried! Because I want to make sure she is well cared for and looked after at these appointments, I need some help. In addition, I often have little understanding of what is going on at these appointments and how to help her. It would be great to have someone who could help us both understand what is going on and who could also fill in when I cannot attend. Can your company help me with this?Dear Anne,
We certainly can help you and are often asked to provide this type of service.
This is what we term our "Advocacy" portion of our services offered by Qualicare.
Accompanying our clients to medical appointments is one of the most valuable services we offer. We know that the wait time for an appointment (especially with a specialist) may be quite long, and during the waiting time, many situations can change for the family and the client.
A qualified registered nurse will accompany your mother to any of her appointments, as required. This is where Qualicare can accomodate what you are asking for by Advocating at each appointment for your mother.
We speak with the family and client prior to attending the appointment so we are able to obtain pertinent health/lifestyle information to prepare us adequately for the enusing appointment. We will prepare a letter of introduction to the medical provider with a brief detail of our objectives and we present it at the appointment. Most professionals greatly appreciate the report and read it before we actually begin the appointment so they are current about their patient.
Our RN Case Managers take notes and relay all the information back to the family and review with the client at the end of the appointment. They also help support proper communications between the doctor, the patient and their family.
In summary, our RN Case Managers advocate for our clients by asking the right questions and getting the most they can out of the appointment with the specialist/healthcare professional. This will assist the client and family to better understand their options in order to make informed decisions for themselves or their loved ones.
